I have been using Roxio easy CD & DVD creator for a long time now, just recently it has played up, on the icon that is in the right hand corner of the monitor it say 'no recorder' it also tells me that 'Engine Initialization has Failed' whatever that means. I have deleted & reinstalled the program but it still does not work,I also have done a restore. I know the burner is working because when I send something it sends it to 'Welcome to CD Writing Wizard' but that no good because I cannot delete anything from that disk if necessary. Any ideas from anyone. On the other hand, if you have (as it appears) been using Drag2Disc - Packet-Writing - as a backup, you may be about to learn why Packet-Writing is the VERY WORST way to make a backup. It is also the VERY BEST way to permantly lose data. In the future - and if you get your current data back - I'd sugest a Sessions-based program like Classic Creator, or the built-in Windows XP buring (which is what's giving you the writing wizard).
Or use a Flash Drive (aka Thumb / Pen / Jump / Keychain Drive). Altho you may be lucky and discover that your 'default program' has somehow changed to WinXP. Windows has a way of doing helpful corrections like that. CD-R discs are something like 15 cents each by the spindle - is your data worth that much if you lose it? Lynn Edited September 20, 2007 by lynn98109. If you have auto-update turned on, I would expect it to have downloaded IE 7 for you as well as WinPlayer 11.
(open IE, click on Help >About and see what it says) At this point, since those two 'improvements' have made changes deep inside the operating system to bring it in line with Vista, you might consider the 30-day trial of EMC 9, which should work with that setup. If your computer isn't powerful enough to deal with EMC 9 (check the system requirements), there is a pinned post on the EMC 7 DVD board explaining how to roll back to IE 6 and WinPlayer 10. At the moment I'm at the Win2000 and the WinXP is turned off, so I can't verify it's the same in WinXP, but on this computer go to the control panel >automatic updates, and there are some choices there.
As I said, my computers are set NOT to use auto-update. If I turn on the WinXP and it doesn't complain about auto-update being turned off, I investigate. Lynn Edited September 21, 2007 by lynn98109. Thanks lynn98109 for all your help but I downloaded this and all is working ok. Once a again THANKS One query, can I download the free trial of EMC 9 & use it when I have CD & DVD creator on the same computer? Thanks for that link Finn.
That pxengine update worked for me. This happened to me before too, and I didn't document what updates were needed to detect my CD-DVD drive. Today I reinstalled on Windows XP SP 2: Roxio CD & DVD Creator 6 which includes: Roxio Creator Classic 184.108.40.206 RoxioDVD Builder 220.127.116.11 Creator Classic could not detect my Pioneer DVR-110D (firmware 1.41) After I installed It detected it fine.
